We are delighted to announce that the Innerleithen Youth Brass Band Contest will return on Saturday 1 October at St. Ronans School. We have six youth bands entered for what is sure to be an excellent morning of live music and fun!

The Band is sorry to announce that Simon Railton has stepped down as Conductor. Simon has served the band for the last year and played an important part in the Band's recovery from the hiatus caused by the pandemic.

"We would like to thank Simon for all his work with the Band and wish him well for the future," said Band Chair, Claire Bell.

The Band has appointed David McLeod as Musical Director with immediate effect.

"We have been very fortunate to have been able to bring in David as MD," commented Mrs Bell. "He will bring his extensive experience and creativity to the role and we are looking forward to working together," she added.

Born in Hawick, David is a third generation brass player, originally from Hawick. A graduate of the the Royal Scottish Academy of Music, David worked as a Brass instructor and for a period was a local authority Head of Instrumental Teaching. Up until recently he was a Musical Director and trumpet player for Royal Caribbean International, travelling the world performing and directing on cruise ships. He now works back closer to home for Scottish Borders Council as a Brass Instructor. David’s playing and conducting has taken him all over the world and has seen much contest success with bands in all sections, something he hopes continues! When not conducting bands he can still be found playing in theatres, big bands, orchestras and ensembles of all types and sizes. David was Musical Director of St. Ronan's from 2002-05 and again in 2010-11.

David commented, "I'm delighted to be reunited with the Band and look forward to another successful partnership as we look towards various playing opportunities."

The Band is keen to recruit solo cornet players and a 2nd euphonium player to join the Band at this exciting time!
